more updates #2

Image
soo some progress has been made! NO LONGER doing a totem pole wayfinding structure. It became too much and too complicated and Franc and I decided it didn't suit the space well with all the different floors and rooms and information that Hatcher has. Instead I'm going to focus on creating maps for each floor (both north and south) that will be on each floor to show all that exists on a single floor with some navigation for how to get to other spaces. For ex. all the floors on North will show the walkway that connects to Hatcher south on the 2nd floor. Currently in Hatcher there are no maps that I've seen so I think this will be helpful! I am also going to tackle the call numbers for book stacks and some navigational/arrow signage as one moves through the building (currently this already exists but desperately needs a redesign). I am continuing to stick to my north and south branding because this is still not differentiated clear enough when someone enters the building.  I...

LOTS of updates

Long time no see!!! Here are all of my work updates!  Currently working on developing and finalizing the main form of signage that will be in the lobbies of Hatcher North and South. I'm thinking of doing some sort of totem pole signage post that was inspired by the wayfinding system of the Seattle Public Library. Right now I am grappling with how to show the whole building system while also providing a "you are here" orienting element. Got some great notes in critique this past week and will work on developing this further. Final type studies of the building branding and North and South branded elements (after speaking to librarians I wanted to focus on the North and South differences of the building and outlining which side of the building you are in) Color palette and color-coding system for all the different spaces in Hatcher. The brown at the bottom will be a neutral un-coded color used for type and different elements.  Mockup of Hatcher North entrance with new brand...

Photos!

Went to Hatcher to scope out spaces for signage and to take photos to possibly use as mockups. This visit felt a little bit rushed (and I was also scared to be in the way of people since it was relatively busy hahah) so I think I might need to go back depending on what I think is necessary. For now this should work at least for planning purposes. I will share these with Franc as well and see what he thinks in terms of the image quality. I found Hatcher to be relatively dark in terms of lighting so I will see if these suffice or maybe I should go a bit earlier in the day when the light is better (I went around 4pm). I am also thinking of taking inspiration from the shapes that I found in the exterior of the building and using those as motifs throughout the branding. I think it can inspire icon shapes and symbols. For example taking inspiration from the gilding and possibly the circular crest. I want to play around more with this but am using this as a space to record this idea....
